8. Promises Held, Needing Actions

Psalm 37:3-6
3 Trust in the Lord and do good.
Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.
4 Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you your heart’s desires.
5 Commit everything you do to the Lord.
Trust him, and he will help you.
6 He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn,
and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.

Here in our text today we are given some strong essentials in how we are to live. There are some
basics that strongly encouraged and then promises that spring forth from obedience.

God’s Promises:
1. Safety and Prosperity. (v.3)

We can live safely and prosper…

In a time of chaos, isn’t this a beautiful promise from God? As I record this, we have cities again seeing flames lick their walls, anger bursting from hearts and the livelihoods of citizens being snuffed out. In a time as uncertain as this, don’t we find ourselves yearning for His safety? For his prosperity…

I find myself thinking about it often as I try to make plans for the future. Heck, I was checking prices of Uhauls today, and to move I am looking at 4000 just in a vehicle rental if I go with them. I an desperate for God’s promises… yet, if that’s all I focus on I miss the importance of this passage. This passage isn’t just a list of what God OWES me…. It’s a passage of coupling, of His promise and my action. It isn’t enough to ponder his promise, but we must act in Faith, walking in the life he is guiding.

For his Safety and Prosperity, I must:

Our Part:

1. Trust (v.3) (v.5)
We are encouraged to trust twice in our passage. Trusting God means when circumstances re
difficult and not ideal, we continue to look to him through all of life’s hardships. We simply
expect our heavenly Father be with us through it all. Leading, guiding, encouraging and carrying
us through each day.

2. Do good (v3)
Do good wherever we find ourselves, and serve the way Jesus would serve.

3. Live (v.3)
Live the way every child of God should live, actively, boldly, and a full life.
