Christ, The One We Worship
The One We Worship
Philippians 2:5-11
5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
6 Though he was God,
he did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to.
7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form,
8 he humbled himself in obedience to God
and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
It is Christmas morning…Merry Christmas!
Most of you will not be viewing this Christmas morning, but you may view it at some point and what I have to share is both important and moving.
Verses 5-8 in this passage the importance of Jesus as a humble man and servant to all. It is completely true that Jesus had come in complete and total humility and that he came as a slave to serve all humanity. He came to blaze a path back to the heavenly Father that you and I might experience a restored relationship with God.
Then we turn our view on Jesus to the above verses that direct us from Christ’s humiliation to his exaltation and his journey from servant to Lord.
Happy Birthday to Jesus! Today we remember his birth but we celebrate who he is today. We celebrate today the fact that God became flesh, but we also celebrate the fact that from his lowest point on this earth he has been exalted to the place of highest honor in all of heaven.
Another aspect of what we celebrate today is the fact that our Lord sacrificed himself and because of that ultimate act of service, he is exalted as Lord of all.
This is the one we worship this Christmas morning!
